L.R. Johnson Cabinet

I'm absolutely obsessed with the new mantle on my fireplace. It's everyone's favorite part of my house.
A dishwasher was a must have item for me, but my house didn't have one...So I made Larry do some magic and voila, he made room for the most important appliance I own.
This bedroom only had storage under the basement stairs which I thought was creepy. I asked Larry to make me something beautiful and functional but fit the simplicity of the house. This is what he came up with and I'm obsessed.
I am IN LOVE with Larry's handmade wooden bowls. I want to buy every single thing he makes so I'm questioning sharing this picture a little bit. If you buy that vase in the bottom right corner before I can I'll probably fight you.

A lot has changed since we posted last! Everyone around here has busy lives! New homes, new babies, new jobs! I bought a new home last year and I've been working hard to try to customize my house. You know, take it from 'a house' to 'my home.'
Finding contractors can be the worst part of getting work done in your house. Just needing to know whether someone will be reliable, knowing if they will come on time, get work done when they say they will, whether they can see your vision and whether execute the way you want. I was lucky enough to have a carpenter (or you could say cabinet maker) who had already worked with a lot of friends and family members in Utah who was recommended to me. He had done custom kitchen work in my sisters' homes and had done a gorgeous mantle and staircase in my oldest sister's house so I felt really confident hiring him to do work on my kitchen, build custom built in storage, and build a mantle for my home. And he makes gorgeous hand-turned wood burl bowls and vessels too which I'm obsessed with. I want a million of them to turn into family heirloom pieces.
After he finished his projects around my house I decided I needed to design him a site so more people could know about this old school gem! The people need to know! Good help and quality work can be hard to find but if you are near the Utah or Davis County area this is a good option for you.
If you need pre-made or custom woodworking or cabinetry in Utah you need to know about lrjohnsoncabinet.com. Please do yourself a favor and check it out :)

P.S. This blog is obviously too small for sponsors, but I do feel the need to tell you all of my swoonings were definitely not sponsored. They are just because Larry Johnson is the cutest and best contractor I could have asked for. He and his brother Max ate bologna sandwiches in my basement and told me jokes on their break and gave me beautiful additions to my home and I'm their biggest fan now.

moon quilt

I had a dream of making a quilt with a moon on it to hang above my bed. It seemed like I would sleep better with the symbol of night-time above my head and my dreams would be open to the entire universe. In the end, it looks more like it belongs in a little boy's nursery instead of a grown woman's bedroom, but I still like it. My mom helped me hand quilt it which was a lot of fun and not as hard as I thought it was going to be (although would have been completely daunting without her help!).

If anyone is interested in the pattern let me know and I can share.

Danny Dino

I recently visited The Utah Museum of Natural History. My favorite FAVORITE part was the wall of dinosaur skulls:

Since then, I've been obsessing about how cool a wall like that would look at my house. I have been searching the internet for some tutorials on how to make a paper mache dino skull. I was expecting a tutorial for something as epic as the life-size Danny Dino head Gus made in elementary school on the Psych episode 65 Million Years Off:

But I couldn't find anything. I found this super rad pic of a cardboard dino head:

and this other amazing pic of a cardboard dino head:

Both of which I LOVE, but they are not skulls. But then today, after several weeks of periodic failed attempts, I finally Googled the correct words and found a real paper mache dino skull tutorial!!

It is pretty technical and may be beyond my abilities to create but hey, I found a tutorial! And someday I might actually make it. And I will have the coolest TV room of all time.

Sneak Peek

You guys have heard me talk about my good friend and great photographer Jessica Peterson on here before.  I was lucky enough to do a photo shoot with her and a couple of other really great vendors for a Scenemaker wedding shoot. I don't have real images to share here yet but I'm excited to share a few quick iPhone photos of how fun this was.   I will make sure and share the details when Jessicas beautiful photos are available.

Guys.  I feel pretty lame about putting that last selfie in there, but probably the hair Soula did is probably the fanciest my hair will ever be. WHOOPS!

The only thing I care about right now is cookies. I am a sucker for homemade cookies. So today I'm going to post a bunch of beautiful looking cookie photo/recipes (none of which belong to me). Then I'm going to eat a cookie. Maybe this weekend I will try one of these recipes. If you try any of these, let me know how it goes. Or better yet, please bring me one!

Aaaaaaand this, which is not a cookie, but too beautiful not to post and too fancy for me to ever make:

Nike Fleece Tech Cape

I'm pretty sure that working out is at least 5x easier if you look cute. I am absolutely certain that staying at home watching Netflix is at least 10x easier than working out. Via the transitive property you can see that you probably need a functional hoodie that can fill the need whether you're lounging or lunging. Enter the Nike Fleece Tech Cape.

I have been obsessed with this beaut of a hoodie since the day I saw it. Of course I became even more obsessed when these unreal gorgeous images surfaced from the photoshoot with Ms. Maria Sharapova. (More like Share-your-cape..pova?... forget it.) I have come up with four talking points to convince everyone to buy this cape. 1- It has a HOOD. For someone who went to the gym tonight in what can only be described as 'sleeting sky spit', I would have benefitted from this cute black-piped spacious hood. 2- Pockets,yo! (Also, I can only assume you also start buying fancy watches when you procure one of these beautiful fleece capes. Either that, or it comes with purchase?) 3- You will probably have really beautiful highlights and never-ending good hair days. 4- You will always always look good when flying via private jet. Always.

Let's not forget that this thing covers your toosh too. So again, works at the gym or with Ben and/or Jerry. I really see no cons other than it's impossible to find and is sold out everywhere always...

Sigh!

Luti ceramics

I recently had the opportunity to design a logo for Luti Ceramics. It was a super fun project and she makes super fun stuff. If you are in the Salt Lake City area you should check out the ceramics she has for sale at Mod a-go-go.
